Five o’clock this morning has come and gone and this year’s Amnesty International report on the state of the world’s human rights is now available to the world. Some of the team stayed up all night to make sure it was all there.

The site contains the usual mix of materials, including the A-Z list of countries detailing the issues in 2008, the Foreword by Amnesty International Secretary General Irene Khan presenting the organization’s case to the world and a range of video and audio materials and images.

The key message from the report, that underlying the current economic crisis is an explosive human rights crisis, a social, political and economic time bomb, is already gathering quite a bit of media attention.

Today, Amnesty International is also unveiled the Demand Dignity campaign. This is a long-term campaign that will focus on tackling exclusion, discrimination, marginalisation and poverty. You can add your voice at http://www.demanddignity.org – quite a few people already have.

Another year, another Amnesty International Report website – we hope you find it useful.

From the Estonia report - ” In June, the Estonian Security Police Board published its annual report which made serious allegations against the Legal Information Centre for Human Rights (LICHR), an NGO promoting and defending the rights of those belonging to linguistic minorities. These allegations were widely seen as an attempt by the government to misrepresent the LICHR and to undermine its attempts to secure the necessary financial and social support to carry out its work. ”

What a joke. Amnesty is lying. Nobody in Estonia considers this as an attempt to discredit the LICHR. It is a fact that LICHR is beeing financed by the Russian foreign ministry. This is not an oppinion or an accusation. LICHR also constantly praises war crimes commited against Estonian civilians.
