Ireland: Dublin and Shannon Airport demonstrations

Street actions were held on the Guantanamo anniversary across the country aiming to humanise Guantanamo detainees and calling for international protection to be offered to those who cannot be returned home in Ireland.

In Dublin, activists wearing orange jumpsuits posed in ’stress positions’ to protest against Guantánamo and renditions near the Daniel O’ Connell Statue. Petitions were also signed on orange jumpsuits which will later be handed on to the White House in February.

At Shannon airport, a vigil and protest against renditions was held on Jan 11, 2009.
