In Japan, activists collected pictures of hooded participants with message placards including ‘Close Guantanamo’ and ‘Justice for detainees’.
The ‘Good bye, Guantánamo’ action targeted Amnesty International local groups, other civil organizations and academics to screen the film Taxi to the Dark Side across Japan.

Close Guantánamo action in Indonesia - Amnesty International
Demonstration held outside the US embassy on 21 January 2009 in Jakarta urging President Obama to Counter Terror with Justice. Key messages at the demonstration:
- Close Guantánamo! Yes, you can! (Tutup Guantánamo! Adna bisa!)
- Stop Torture & other Ill Treatment Everywhere! (hentikan penyiksaan di mana-mana)

Activists in Prague staged an event to mark the seventh anniversary of Guantánamo. Passerbys signed the petition urging the Czech Republic as the new EU president to urge the closure of Guantánamo.
The event was marked with a cage in the centre of town, with activists dressed in orange jumpsuits.

Street actions were held on the Guantanamo anniversary across the country aiming to humanise Guantanamo detainees and calling for international protection to be offered to those who cannot be returned home in Ireland.
In Dublin, activists wearing orange jumpsuits posed in ’stress positions’ to protest against Guantánamo and renditions near the Daniel O’ Connell Statue. Petitions were also signed on orange jumpsuits which will later be handed on to the White House in February.
At Shannon airport, a vigil and protest against renditions was held on Jan 11, 2009.
