Ha pasado un año desde que el ejército israelí arrestara a Bassem Tamimi por organizar manifestaciones pacíficas contra la expansión de asentamientos israelíes ilegales en el terreno perteneciente a su aldea.

Padre de tres hijos, Bassem Tamimi tiene 44 años y vive en Al Nabi Saleh, en la Cisjordania ocupada. Antes de su detención, el 24 de marzo de 2011, trabajaba como funcionario y estaba estudiando un máster. Todavía continúa su juicio militar.

Mientras, Bassem, preso de conciencia, permanece recluido bajo custodia a la espera de una sentencia, y su familia, en Al Nabi Saleh, sigue sufriendo acosos por parte de las fuerzas militares israelíes.

It’s a year since Bassem Tamimi was arrested by the Israeli army for organizing non-violent protests against the expansion of illegal Israeli settlements on land belonging to his village.

The 44-year-old father of three lives in al-Nabi Saleh in the occupied West Bank. Prior to his arrest on 24 March 2011 he was a public employee and studied for a Masters degree. His military trial continues.

In the meantime, Bassem, a prisoner of conscience, remains in detention awaiting the verdict, while his family in al-Nabi Saleh continue to be harassed by the Israeli military.

This week, the court ruled to reject a petition by Palestinian families and human rights organizations to annul a 2003 law that prohibits Palestinian spouses of Israeli citizens from enjoying the right to family life in Israel.
