Donatella Rovera, principale conseillère d’Amnesty International pour les situations de crise, est revenue depuis peu de la province syrienne d’Idlib, où elle s’est entretenue avec des témoins de la répression brutale qui touche le pays.
« Des soldats sont venus chez nous et ont emmené mon fils. Plus tard, en regardant par la fenêtre, j’ai vu des soldats aligner huit jeunes hommes debout face au mur avec les mains attachées dans le dos et tirer sur eux. Ensuite ils ont mis les corps à l’arrière d’un pick-up et sont partis.
Je ne sais pas si les hommes étaient tous morts ou blessés. À ce moment-là, j’ignorais que l’un d’eux était mon fils. Son corps a été retrouvé avec d’autres dans une école non loin de notre domicile. »

Today, the UN Human Rights Council will meet to begin debating a crucial report on seriously flawed Israeli and Palestinian investigations into grave violations of international law committed during the 2008-2009 conflict in the Gaza Strip and southern Israel.
By the end of the week it will vote on a resolution on what should be done next. If it does the right thing, its actions could take the conflict’s victims a step closer to achieving the justice denied to them for over two years – this time at an international level.

It was a welcome opportunity to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during her official visit to the UK. Three of us, Lord Eric Avebury of the UK House of Lords, Brad Adams of Human Rights Watch and I met the Prime Minister on 30 January at her hotel suite in London.
Bangladesh Foreign Minister, Dr Dipu Moni and the Bangladesh High Commissioner to the UK, Dr Sayeedur Rahman Khan were also present at the meeting.
